The Mekong Delta is the region in southwestern Vietnam where the Mekong River approaches and empties into the sea through a network of distributaries. The Mekong delta region encompasses a large portion of southeastern Vietnam of 39, 000 square kilometres (15, 000 sq mi). The size of the area covered by water depends on the season.
Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City - Ben Tre - Can Tho (L, D)
My Tho is located on the Northern banks of the Mekong river and is the closest town in the Delta area to Ho Chi Minh City, about 2 hours drive away. In the center of the town, close to the river, there is a large market that sells home accessories. Around the My Tho area you will find a maze of small canals that can be explored and four famous islands (Dragon, Phoenix, Turtle and Unicorn island). Other places to visit are the longan plantations. Return to My Tho by motorboat. Afterward we head to Can Tho to spend the night at the hotel. ( home stays are hightly recommended ).
Day 2: Can Tho - Ho Chi Minh City (B, L)
7: 00 After breakfast, take the morning boat trip to visit the Phong Dien floating market with the busy market scene right at this early time. Continue cruising through the small canals system of the Mighty Mekong River on sampan; visit the village where they make the rice noodles. See the "Monkey Bridge" in the Delta. Visit the second floating market of Cai Rang. Break time for lunch. Return to Ho Chi Minh City. Stop to visit and rest at the Bonsai garden in My Tho. Trip will finish at your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City.
